This page uses exact coordinates from the KMZ dataset published by Henri Pornon at géographie-sacrée.fr. The KMZ confirms the line passes through Pontmain (not Montmain), Paray-le-Monial (not Cluny, which sits ~22 km off the axis), and Sienne (not Assise, which is ~30 km off). All 30 directed-pair combinations were tested across 18 astronomical events from 5,000 BCE to 2,000 CE.

A Loxodrome, Not a Great Circle
A common misconception is that the line is a single great circle. It is not. The KMZ polyline runs at ~115–123° bearing through consecutive segments — a loxodrome (rhumb-line corridor), not an orthodrome. The great-circle bearing from Skellig to Carmel is 102°; all intermediate sites lie 90–300 km to the right (south) of that great circle. Skellig Michael to Mount Carmel is 4,215 km — the Earth's surface drops tens of kilometres below any straight line of sight at that distance. But the builders did not need to see the distant site. They used time instead of space. The terminator — the moving boundary of dawn — follows the curve of the Earth perfectly. Two sites aligned on the same bearing experience the terminator in sequence, separated by a predictable interval. This is how GPS works: not by measuring distance, but by measuring time differences between signals from known points. The builders appear to have discovered the same principle, encoded in stone across a continent.

A Minor Lunar Standstill South Rise Axis
The ~115–120° bearing of the line through France, Italy and Greece matches the Minor Lunar Standstill South Rise azimuth with remarkable precision across the full 3,000 km European section. At the Minor Lunar Standstill, the Moon rises at its southernmost extreme on the 18.6-year cycle — the same cycle encoded at Stonehenge and dominating both the Breton ALSTMI network and the English St Michael & Mary Line.
The Minor Lunar Standstill South Rise azimuth varies only slightly with latitude — from ~114° at 38°N (Greece) to ~118° at 48°N (France) — which is precisely why it makes such a compelling alignment signal across a line spanning 10° of latitude. The consistent ~115–120° bearing of the Apollo-Athena corridor matches this event throughout its length, at every epoch.
Looking back NW along the same axis — from the Greek sanctuaries toward Ireland — the bearing of ~304–307° matches the Summer Solstice Sunset. The axis therefore encodes a complementary solar/lunar pair: the southernmost moonrise (Minor Lunar Standstill South) in the SE direction, and the northernmost sunset (summer solstice) in the NW direction. Both are extreme events. Both mark the maximum reach of the sky's two great lights.
The 'Samhain sunset' description that previously appeared on this page was incorrect. Samhain Sunset at these latitudes falls at ~248° (WSW) — the line runs at ~115° (ESE). These are near-opposite directions. The correct astronomical characterisation is Minor Lunar Standstill South Rise (SE direction) and Summer Solstice Set (NW reverse direction). The proximity of Samhain Sunrise (~114°) to the line bearing does make Samhain Sunrise a secondary valid label for a subset of NW-end pairs — and the mythological connection of Michael-as-psychopomp to Samhain is still theologically compelling — but 'Samhain sunset' is geometrically impossible for this axis.
The axis of the Michael sanctuaries traces the southernmost moonrise across Europe — the Minor Lunar Standstill South, the moon at its extreme. In the reverse direction, looking from the Greek temples toward the Atlantic, the same axis frames the summer solstice sunset over Ireland. The line is not a Samhain sunset. It is the moon at its limit, and the sun at its peak, encoded in stone across a continent.
Early Christian Period Alignments
Several of the top sub-arcsecond pairs achieve their perfect year within the 400–900 CE window — the period when the Michael cult was establishing itself across the Mediterranean and the great sanctuaries were being founded.
The oldest alignments — Monte Sant'Angelo → Mont Saint-Michel at 3,915 BCE, Pise → Skellig at 3,045 BCE — predate the Michael cult by more than four millennia. Christian sanctuaries across Europe were systematically founded on pre-existing sacred sites. The Archangel's network did not create these nodes — it inherited them, baptising Neolithic hilltops and tidal islands that already held astronomical significance. The geometry was already there. The dedication changed; the alignment did not.
